“There’s a saying that if you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life. This has not been my experience. When you love what you do, all you do is work. But the tools feel light in your hands.”
What a year. In 2023 we logged 929 individual 1:1 sessions. We saw 31 new athletes come through the door, 87% of whom signed on. We hosted 8 friends & family adaptive classes bringing ~150 individuals together through group fitness & led 8 more virtual chair fitness classes for the Brain Injury Association of MA.
We reached survivors & individuals with congenital conditions near & far, athletes coming for in person sessions from all over MA as well as RI, CT, NH & ME. We coached individuals remotely & virtually in NY, TX, CO, KS & IA, our range as wide as Europe with athletes in England, Wales, France & Belgium.
We’ve worked with stroke survivors, from ischemic to hemorraghic, cavmal & AVMs. We’ve seen a range of traumatic & non-traumatic brain injuries, including infectious & anoxic. We’ve worked with a range of neuro & neuromuscular conditions including Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Friedreich’s Ataxia, CMT, ALS, PLS & CIDP. We’ve worked with athletes with spinal cord injuries, Cerebral Palsy, Metabolic Diseases, Post polio & West Nile Poliomyelitis, FND & “med complex,” CRPS, amputees, EDS & TEV. We’ve also worked with cancer survivors with a range of diagnosis: glioblastoma, anaplastic empyndymoma, oligiodendroctyoma & other brain & spinal cord tumors.
The recoveries have been remarkable, the progress for each individual athlete & their growth simply defies words. I get to bear witness to remarkable transformations: physically, cognitively & mentally. Seeing these athletes smash PRs in the gym, make huge gains in functional tasks & out there in the real world & gain confidence & independence in everything they do is the dream turned reality. And beyond that, the community we have formed - well, it’s truly something special that you can only see here.
We work ALL the time here - but no one works as much or as hard as these athletes. And the tools feel light in our hands.
I can’t wait to see what 2024 has to bring.
